Abstract

This paper aims to define the role that nationalism played in Quebec’s April 7th, 2014 general election. In order to do so, we conducted out a documental research in three francophone Québécois newspaper, La Presse, Le Devoir and Le Journal de Montréal, in which we identified a total of 490 publications related to Quebec’s national question, demonstrating the attention that this issue received during the electoral campaign’s media coverage. The analysis of these data allowed us to identify that each party represented in the Assemblée Nationale adopted different points of view concerning the national question, presenting competing visions of the political future of Quebec. This scenario drives us to conclude that the independence project is still relevant to the structure of politics in Quebec.
