Abstract

The rapid advance of technology has given children greater accessibility, and they are increasingly becoming part of the technological industry. Considering the above, this study aims to identify whether there is a relationship between the use of screens and the types of games played. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study with children from a second-grade class, aged seven, from a municipal school in Canoas. Interviews were also conducted with the children's legal guardians, using instruments such as semi-structured interviews and drawings. The data was analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. The results showed that the children prefer analog toys, and the choice of games, for the most part, has psychological purposes, and they choose to play in open environments. It was also possible to see that although children prefer analog play, ease and convenience lead them towards technological media. This means that there is an expectation of play that differs from what is done, demonstrating that the children have not been listened to by their families, which may suggest difficulties in the family's understanding of the children's needs.
