Abstract

In an increasingly competitive and dynamic environment, knowledge and time have become key factors for businesses, making it necessary to continually pursue waste elimination and reduce costs. The objective of this work is to promote SMED through a method adapted in the bibliographic reviews. SMED is based on techniques for reducing setup time (machine set-up time), eliminating process waste. The tool encourages teamwork and creatively delivers process improvements. The case study was conducted on an assembly line that factory sound automotive. The main finding is that by implementing SMED the assembly line achieved a83% reduction in setup time. This time reduction allows the company to produce small batches by reducing lead time and eliminating excess inventory, providing greater product quality and meeting customer expectations.
