The Sawdust Carpets of Holy Week in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, as a substrate for the preservation of memory and identity
Abstract: The objective of this research was to analyze how the sawdust carpets of the Holy Week of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, contribute to the preservation of the memory and identity of this historic city. The research adopts a qualitative approach, using methods such as bibliographic research, secondary sources, photographic records and participant observation. The study presents the relationship between the community and tourists during the production of carpets, exploring theoretical concepts in the areas of tourism and heritage. The research results highlight that the tradition of sawdust carpets works as a space for social interaction, promoting the memory and identity of the analyzed tradition both among local residents and among visitors. It is concluded that the making of the sawdust carpets transcends the city's history, playing a multifaceted role in the preservation and continuous renewal of memory and identity, while enriching the cultural experience of those who experience them.
