Abstract

The exhibition Cidade 60+ (City 60+), at the Museum of the Republic, in Rio de Janeiro, aimed to stimulate discussion of some challenges faced by elderly people, bringing visitors closer to the reality faced by this sector of the population. Our objective in this study was to understand the experience of groups visiting the exhibition, with the following research questions: (1) What interactions and conversations between visitors and explainers occurred during the visit? and (2) What is the role of the explainers in stimulating (or not) conversations about the exhibition theme? We carried out a qualitative investigation with ten groups visiting the exhibition aged between 13 and 70 years. Visits were recorded using a subjective camera. Content in video format was coded using a research protocol focusing on visitor interactions with explainers, as well as the nature of the conversations. The results indicate that the exhibition promoted dialogues on themes related to aging, raised by the exhibition. There is also evidence that the explainers played an important role in instigating reflections on the topics.
