Brazil is one of the 17 countries with greatest biodiversity, therefore, considered megadiverse. Although being the country with the highest species richness of mammals in the world, is the fourth with respect to number of threatened species. With the aim to contribute to knowledge about the mammals of Rio Grande do Sul and its conservation, we did a survey of mammalian species occurring at Morro do Coco, one of the last forest remnants in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. Using different techniques and sampling methods over two years, with monthly expeditions, we found 28 species of mammals, seven of which are threatened with extinction in Rio Grande do Sul.
