Film conservation as a form of artistic material is also very important for the researcher, because it shows the history of film and its technical, narrative and socio-economic evolution. This article presents information about the preservation of the memory of the cinema in Brazil, and some problems and questions related to the conservation of films. Also, it tries to develop an analysis of the context of some moments of the history of the Cinemateca Brasileira, pointing out some issues about the conservation and preservation of film collections in Brazil.
