In the present essay, we discuss how scientific knowledge is unfolding within sociology, mainly through three main bases of environmental sociology: the realists, the constructivists and the realist-constructivist, i.e., according to the theory of risk society. This article does not cover the environment in its ecological sense, as commonly knowing, but the urban environment, specifically as it is related to the historical and cultural heritage of cities. This paper debates how environmental sociology can bring answers to the equity risk that suffers nowadays. The methodology used was the literature review, through the interdisciplinary perspective, combining themes and concepts from environmental sociology with the heritage issue.Downloads
