This study aims to analyze how the community of Parobé participated in the process of emancipation of the locality. For this purpose, it uses as methodology the bibliographic research, newspapers of local and state circulation and interviews with a member of the emancipation commission. Through the survey, it was possible to observe that the community played an important role in the process in different aspects, among which we highlight the demands for improvements in the district, the contribution to the formation of the emancipation movement, the support to the commission during the assembly of the emancipation project and, finally, its approval through plebiscitary consultation, being the last aspect for the confirmation of the separation of the district of Parobé from the municipality of Taquara. The population is an important part of the local democratic process through the plebiscite.
