Abstract

Brazil is considered a megadiverse country because it contains the largest known continental biodiversity and the largest number of endemic species. Two of the 34 hotspots on the planet are in Brazilian territory and one of them is the Atlantic Forest, which covers formations of Araucaria Forest. We aimed to contribute information about the species composition of medium and large sized mammals in a forest remnant in southern Brazil. The study took place from November 2008 to September 2009, totaling an effort of 360 plots.day and 47h of active search. We recorded 15 native species and one exotic species of medium and large sized mammals, nine of which are endangered in state of Rio Grande do Sul.
