School material culture provides many research approaches to researchers of Education History. It is through the preservation of collections, being them archival, bibliographical, or museological that this culture is materialized. The aim of this article was to discuss school material culture and collections preservation and, the relationships between the two areas of knowledge: Museology and Archival Science. Initially, we approached the school material culture and then the school collections, their preservation and safeguard disputes and lastly, the perspectives and affinities between Archival Science and Museology, all based on the university collection of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG). Bibliographic and documental research at FURG collection were carried out as well as interviews with active and retired workers under the oral history perspective. In relation to the higher education historiography, it stands out the need to resort both to its own collections (archival and museological) and to Oral History. Strategies of organization and preservation of the collections are also needed to guarantee the work of researchers.Downloads
