Abstract

This article is a part of a largest research, already completed, which approached the candidature and electoral campaign of Leonel de Moura Brizola for the government of Rio Grande do Sul in 1958. It seeks to analyze how Brizola joined in the politics of the democratic experience (1945-1964), how he ascended inside the PTB of Rio Grande do Sul and in the state policy and what were the means through which Brizola was built as a candidate for the state government for the 1958 elections. The theoretical starting point for this analysis is the theory of the political field, proposed by Pierre Bourdieu.
