Abstract

Investigate the role of São Domingos Church as a cultural heritage to the town of Torres/RS. The methodology includes bibliographic and documental analysis, research in books, thesis, articles and websites, also semi-structured interviews and structured questionnaire, therefore allowing it to verify the Church as a museological object. It presents and discusses the Church’s role within the cultural scenario of the town. It analyzes the connection between regulars residents and visitors with the built-heritage in a museological perspective. It highlights the importance of preservation of these spaces in touristic towns. It concludes that the connection between community and Church, which is a historical/cultural heritage of the town, was built and transformed over time, understanding that this bond is directly related to the sense of identification with that space, attached to the memory given to this place.
