Abstract

The Way of the Cross refers to the path of Jesus carrying his cross during Passion. In Minas Gerais, the spread of the cult of Passion was perpetuated by the secular associations generating a broad and diversified heritage. The Lent and Holy Week rites were done in churches or chapels along the urban space. This article aims to analyze the senses of heritage by the route that goes or leads the Via Sacra to the faithful. Thus, we investigated the procession of the Burial of the third order of Carmen and the chapels of the brotherhood of the Lord of the Paths in São João Del Rei (MG). The methodology applied was documentary, iconographic research and technical analysis of the heritage associated with photographic record in situ. Therefore, those practices, whether inner or external, helped the laic on the way to the salvation of their souls.
