Abstract

The genius of architect and urbanplanner Paulo Roberto Chaves Fernandes transformed the historical heritage of Belém, much of it from the period of rubber wealth, leaving its mark on iconic projects in the capital and in the interior of the state, in addition to his contribution in the field of arts with encouragement to literature, music and various artistic and cultural manifestations. Walter Benjamin tells, in a book about his life in Berlin, his relationship with the city, the documents. He said that every place he went, he found his past. So was Paulo Chaves, our architect-flaneur, who dived deep into every project developed by him and his team in Belém do Grã Pará who loved so much. His death, which occurred on March 17, 2021, leaves us the best architectural set of public works of this State, with refinement and competence of a genius, returning to the city part of its lost heritage, and often buried.
