Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

CONDITIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS:

I- The paper must be original and submitted only to REVISTA DE CIÊNCIAS AMBIENTAIS.

II- Papers can be written in Portuguese or English.

III- Papers submitted to the journal will be examined by the Editorial Board and revised by at least two "ad hoc" referees, according to their areas of expertise, based on the following criteria:

a) scientific and theoretical content;

b) relevance for the knowledge area;

c) clarity and quality of writing;

d) quality and suitability of the theoretical reference used.

IV- For each edition, the Editorial Board will select, among the papers which have received a final acceptance, those which shall be published immediately due to the relevance of their contribution. Manuscripts which are not selected shall be appreciated again on the occasion of the following editions.

V- Authors must provide contact information (full name, institutional affiliation and e-mail) of at least three potential reviewers, experts in the field of work submitted. The information must be filled in the "Comments to the Editor" during the submission process. The reviewers suggested must not have published co-authored with authors over the past five (5) years nor belong to the same institution. Suggested reviewers will be considered as potential reviewers, according to the opinion of the Editorial Board.

FORM AND PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS:

1- The document must contain a maximum of 20 double-spaced pages, on A4 paper size, 2 cm margins on each side. All text must use font Times New Roman, size 12. The manuscript should be submitted in a MS Word file (*.doc), only electronically, through the OJS/SEER.

2- Bibliographic citations in the text should be in accordance to the following standard: one author (Sabedot, 2006); two authors (Prata and Locatelli, 2006); three or more authors (Silva et al., 1999). In the case of authors' names are part of the sentence, only the year of the publication must be placed between parentheses. If there is more than one paper written by the same author in the same year, the letters a, b, or c must be added after the year, according to the following example: Corseuil et al. (2000a; 2000b). When there is more than one bibliographic citation within the same parentheses, they must be presented in chronological order. Example: (Bacon, 1984; La Salle, 1988; Lise et al., 1993; Souza et al., 2000).

3- Tables: should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and preceded by the title. They must present explanatory legends and be in accordance with the rules of tabular presentation.

4- Figures: graphs, pictures, drawings, schemes, formulas, models, etc., should have a good quality and be accompanied by explanatory legends. They must necessarily present a minimum resolution of 300dpi and should be inserted in the text. They must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals.

5- Figures and tables should preferably already be inserted in the text.

6- The manuscript must be in the following format:

Title: must be in accordance with the content of the paper, taking into consideration the characteristics of the journal, and contain a maximum of 20 words.

Title in a second language: translation of the title into English (in the case of the paper has been written in English, the translation into Portuguese must be used).

Author(s): full name, without any abbreviation.

Scientific Affiliation: indicate Department, Institute, University or Institution of affiliation.

Abstract in Portuguese: must contain between 150 and 250 words, and consists of a short summary of each section of the work, highlighting objective(s), methodology, results and conclusions.

Keywords in Portuguese: between three and five words or short expressions that identify the content of the paper. Key words should not repeat words already used in the title.

Abstract in English: translation of the abstract into English. In the case of the paper has been written in English, it should have an abstract in Portuguese.

Keywords in English: translation of the key words into English. Similarly to the item above, if the paper has been written in English, the key words must be translated into Portuguese.

Text: prepared according to the characteristics of the work and to the following categories.

Articles: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion (these two last items may be merged into a single section) and Conclusions.

Short Communications: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions presented continuously (without division into sections), reaching a maximum of five pages.

Case studies: Introduction, Description, Discussion and Conclusions.

Thematic Revisions: Introduction, Literature Review, Discussion and Conclusions.

Acknowledgements: optional.

References: the order of the list of references must be alphabetical. If the reference has one, two or three authors, all the authors must be cited. When there are more than three authors just the last name of the first author must be mentioned, followed by et al. The citations of full papers published in annals of scientific events may not exceed 10% of all references listed. Citations of abstracts or unpublished reports will not be accepted.
