Agricultural pesticide poisonings in the state of Santa Catarina: amount and distribution during the period from 2010 to 2012

Abstract

The agricultural pesticides do not pose risks to the population residing in rural areas, but also reaches people residing in urban areas, as this contact may occur when handling pesticides, as well as by the ingestion of contaminated food. The main objective of this study was to identify the amount of pesticide poisonings agricultural records, in humans, in the municipalities of Santa Catarina and the distribution of these numbers in lower regions of the state in the period from 2010 to 2012.  This is an exploratory descriptive research with descriptive statistical analysis and frequency. The data were obtained from the Toxicological Information Center of Santa Catarina. It was found that was high the amount of records of agricultural pesticides poisonings in humans in the state of Santa Catarina. It appears that according to the records of the agricultural pesticides poisoning still trigger a series of problems for human health.
