Recycling in the municipality of Rolandia-PR: awareness is possible

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the recycling in the city of Rolândia, state of Paraná, Southern Brazil. The results showed about 920 ton/month of organic waste and bound for Municipal Landfill. Around 50 ton of recycling waste collected by a private firm are designated to Associação de Recicladores de Resíduos de Rolândia, which operates at Landfill that complete the process, generating income themselves. However, is need to improve the waste management in the city, for example, implement    an integrated waste management and install alternatives of disposal of organic waste collected. Indeed, it’s important to develop projects to public environmental education for recycling especially for the school system, such as the project Se Liga, Recicle which aimed to capacitate the students how to make the separation of organic waste from selective waste for green education about the importance of preserving the environment, making them multipliers environmental awareness.
