The objective of this study was to analyze the ethnobotanical knowledge of market participants in the Public Market of Corrente-PI, aiming to know and register the negotiation process, the diversity and the way of using plant resources. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with five market participants, all belonging to the male gender, with ages varying from 28 to 78 years old. 25 species of plants for medical use were mentioned, which are distributed in 17 families, with Fabaceae being the most representative. The most used parts were the stem, with 7 citations, followed by seed, with 6 citations. Market participants advise customers on the various ways of preparing herbal medicines, emphasizing decoction and infusion. A percentage of 80% of respondents reported they did not develop any adverse reaction in relation to the use of plants, and 20% presented discomfort due to the use of sucupira (Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth). This research is extremely important for the southernmost region of Piauí, as it presents alternatives for the treatment of diseases, in addition to bringing back the traditional local culture.
