The South of Minas Gerais is a very rich natural resources and endemic species region, however, many environmental infractions are practiced. This article aims to identify the main environmental crimes committed in south of Minas Gerais state and discuss the possible Environmental Education actions applicable to prevent and mitigate them. Through Bardin’s content analysis method (1977), the Social Defense Event Records provided by Military Environmental Police were used. 757 environmental crimes were identified in this region in 2019. The occurrences were classified into five categories: fauna, flora, water resources, polluting activities and others. The survey made it possible to conclude that the number of crimes committed is related to urban growth and multiple land uses. As a way to prevent and mitigate these impacts, proven educational actions are necessary for the acquisition of new values, attitudes and strengthening of awareness, avoiding recurrences.
