Impact of professional qualification in foreign languages on the performance of workers in the hospitality industry: a reflection

Abstract

This summary addresses the impact of professional qualification in foreign languages on the performance of workers in the hotel industry, based on a literature review in databases such as Google Scholar, Scielo, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science from the period 2000 to May 2023. The objective of this review is to analyze relevant studies that highlight the benefits of acquiring fluency in foreign languages for professionals in this sector. Through the analysis of research, it was observed that learning foreign languages not only expands opportunities for interaction with guests of various nationalities but also enables a better understanding of their needs and expectations. Professionals fluent in languages such as English, Spanish, French, among others, are able to perform more complex tasks, such as participating in international meetings and negotiations, composing reports, translating documents, and serving as interpreters. Consequently, investing in the linguistic qualification of the team demonstrates a commitment to excellence in service, resulting in higher customer satisfaction, loyalty, and positive recommendations. Reflecting on the positive impact of this qualification is essential for the growth and development of both professionals and the sector as a whole, as evidenced by the reviewed studies.

Possui graduação em Medicina Veterinária pelo Centro Universitário Anhanguera- Leme (2014), mestrado em Medicina Veterinária Preventiva pela Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp/ Jaboticabal) (2016) e doutorado em Ciências no programa de Zootecnia pela Universidade de São Paulo (FZEA/USP) (2019). Possui graduação em Letras - Licenciatura em Língua Portuguesa e Língua Inglesa pela Universidade Anhanguera - Uniderp (2022). Tem experiência em pesquisa na área de microbiologia; qualidade de alimentos; produção animal; bem-estar e experiência em ensino (de conteúdos voltados a veterinária, biologia e idiomas português, inglês e espanhol).
