This article approaches the relation of the photography as a cultural history, because the first papers about photography in Brazil were accomplished with theoretical and methodological basis of the cultural history. Later on the photography started to get closer to the visual culture, providing support for discussions about its utilization on human sciences. Firstly, there were some discussions about the cultural history field in Brazil, next, the photography on the cultural perspective and its use for the knowledge production, providing us a notion about its cultural expression.
