Abstract

The article deals with the public policies of culture, highlighting the importance of providing researchers with data and information on these actions, which can be obtained by creating a public system to support research on the subject, based on records produced over years for these public policies. These records should be organized and made available for consultation in order to allow the analysis and evaluation of the results obtained. This system can be configured in a research center in contemporary culture, a proposal being developed at the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, cultural equipment of the Secretary of Culture of Rio Grande do Sul. To address this issue, the article presents a concept of culture produced from the texts of relevant authors, discusses the trajectory of the cultural public policies implemented by the Brazilian state over the years and investigates the issue in Rio Grande do Sul. He concluded with the presentation of the proposal to create the aforementioned research center, indicating the actions necessary to achieve success with the project
