The impact of a heritage preservation program on tourism in the city of Pelotas/RS

Problem: Programs for the preservation of historical and cultural heritage produce interventions in order to qualify public spaces, and this generates economic, urban, social and cultural impacts. Objective: The study sought to carry out an economic analysis of public investment in a heritage preservation program in Tourism in the city of Pelotas/RS. Methodology: To achieve the objectives, a review of the Monumenta program was carried out, as well as a quanti quali research that aimed to carry out a comparative economic analysis of the impact of the Monumenta program on tourism. Central result: In addition to the number of actions aimed at tourism, Monumenta had an impact on the increase in the number of tourists. This study showed the need to develop and deepen the theme of economic analysis of the heritage in the city of Pelotas, since the city has a historic heritage with national representativeness, and it is up to public managers to preserve it, a since history is materialized in its heritage and this is a profitable investment.Downloads
