Heritage education as an instrument of citizenship and the performance of the Monumenta Program in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul

This paper shows a theoretical consideration about education for heritage and the analysis of the activities of Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN), mainly the Monumenta Program and it’s acting in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul . The method was based on qualitative bibliography. The education for heritage begins by the needs to preserve the cultural heritage. Besides, reinforce the ally between heritage preservation, memory salvage and citizenship construction.
