Abstract

The emergence of a consensus on the need to integrate cultural heritage into social and economic development in contemporary society is the focus of this reflection, relating it to different narrative constructions on development. The writings of the World Commission on Culture and Development of the 1990s historically place international consensus on the functions that culture can acquire in this field. Celso Furtado’s analyzes of development as progress and transformation are used as main references for the understanding of the dominant currents in the Latin American case. The debate is brought to the 1990s, underlining new strands and matrices for the senses of specialized debates.

Ana Clara Gianechini, IPHAN/UNB/CESCoimbra

Possui graduação em Arquitetura e Urbanismo (2004) pela Universidade de São Paulo, mestrado em Teoria e História da Arquitetura e do Urbanismo (2009) pela Universidade de São Paulo e especialização em Gestão Pública pela Escola Nacional de Administração Pública (2014). Atualmente é doutoranda em Teoria e História da Arquitetura e do Urbanismo na Universidade de Brasília, com período sanduíche no (CES) Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra, e arquiteta do Departamento do Patrimônio Material do Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional.
