Abstract

Environmental licensing is a process that directly influences the productive patterns, use and land occupation and environmental preservation. In this sense, mitigation measures for environmental impacts are envisaged in its implementation stages. Environmental Education (EA) in addition to contributing to the mitigation of environmental impacts promotes social participation and improvement of the quality of life of local actors. Thus, this article aimed to verify the application of EA actions of the Environmental Impact Reports (RIMA) of the state of Sergipe by the case study approach, making some considerations about the importance of this as a management tool. To this end, 10 RIMA’s (Environmental Impact Reports) were analyzed, which correspond to approximately 52% of the total reports made in the State of Sergipe, between 2004 and 2012. Therefore, it was noticed that EA does not have full coverage in the documents studied, and greater incentives are required for this practice in the context of environmental licensing.
