The development of alternative materials from the reuse of waste to meet the demands of civil construction has been gaining prominence in the last decades due to the growing concern with the environment and to make the civil construction sector sustainable. It is a challenge to determine the techniques that allow to characterize and to know the behavior of the microstructure of these, and thus to understand the behavior of the incorporated materials with the most diverse types of residues and verify the durability of these materials when compared to the conventional ones. In this way, it is important to emphasize that the microstructure of the components of a particular alternative or conventional material influences its end behavior. In this context, the objective of this work was to perform the physical and chemical mineralogy of ash obtained from rice hulls from a Caicó/RN. The ash used in this research was generated in two burning: burning in a pottery and in an electric oven temperature 600 °C. The techniques used were: laser diffraction granulometry and X-ray fluorescence (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results obtained showed that the rice husk ash had chemical and mineralogical characteristics that allow its use in the various materials for use in construction due to its characteristics of pozzolan material.
