Mediating factors in the relation between work-family from couples entrepreneurs

This article aims to identify the mediating factors in the relation between work-family from couples entrepreneurs. The research followed a qualitative approach, guided by the thematic oral history method. Data collection occurred through the realization of semi-structured interviews with five couples entrepreneurs from small businesses located in a capital city from Northeast Brazil. The results enabled the identification of mediating factors the work-family relationship: social identity - who the individual is in each domain; the time required for the roles they assume; mutual confidence in each area; individual and time compatibility and interest’s identification (family and company); dialogue as a natural mediator in the work-family relationship. The research results suggest interdependence between the mediators and the synergy between them can facilitate a positive and constructive conflict management in the work and family relation. Future studies can be conducted with the objective of analyzing the impact that each mediator factor has on the couples entrepreneurs lives, analyzing their impact on work and family relationships, the impact of professional practice of couples entrepreneurs in family life and the analysis of impact of entrepreneurial activity in the personal life of each spouse.Downloads
