The objective of the research is to verify the influence of socioeconomic factors on the efficiency of the municipalities of Santa Catarina in allocating public expenses in the first years of fundamental education in the year 2011. To find the efficiency index, the non-parametric methodology Data Envelopment Analysis is used. (DEA). To verify the influence of socioeconomic factors on efficiency in education, the econometric technique of Multiple Linear Regression is used. The results suggest that most municipalities are inefficient in the allocation of resources in the first years of basic education, since only a small portion of municipalities, 21.37%, were considered efficient in 2011. It was also verified that socioeconomic factors have a significant impact on educational performance.References
