Both public and private organization managers should pay special attention to material management, given the ability of this activity to positively or negatively affect organizational results. In this sense, the present study aims to carry out a critical analysis between the management of vehicle parts inventory of a public organization (Brazilian Army) and a private company in the automotive sector. With this, it is intended to expand the managerial knowledge about the administration of materials from the analysis of the similarities and differences existing in the organizations. For that, a qualitative study was carried out from interviews with managers of the organizations. The analysis and interpretation of the data took place through content analysis. Among the main results, similarities in inventory management between organizations stand out, since both use the same management tools, while the difference involves the acquisition of materials, demand forecast and replacement time.References
