Pregnant women perception primiparous regarding knowledge prior about neuropsychomotor development children from 0 to 1 year

Background: The mother is the person with most contact with the baby early in life, it is important to know the steps of maturing and psychomotor development process, specially in the first year of life.
Objective: To verify if first child´s pregnant women previously know the evolutionary stages through which your baby will, from birth to the first twelve months of life.
Method: Field study, exploratory and descriptive, quantitative character. It was used aused a semi-structured and self-administered questionnaire with open and closed questions, answered by primiparae attending the groups of the public health network pregnant women in a small town of Vale do Taquari - RS, the January and February 2013.
Results: There were tabulated and analyzed in Microsoft Excel and presented in tables and graphs, which showed that 23% (7) of the participating pregnant women have 50% or more of knowledge in relation to specific questions about the neurodevelopmental aimed in research and 77% (23) of pregnant women did not performed well about the studied themes.
Conclusion: Given the sample size, the data can not be generalized, however, show the lack of knowledge of the population investigated about the steps and neuropsychomotor skills of children 0-12 months old.
