Perceptions and Difficulties of Users of a Basic Health Unit on the Prostate Cancer Screening Exam

Introduction: Prostate cancer is considered to be the cancer of the third age, and most of the events in the world come from the age of 65.
Objective: To identify the perceptions of the male population about the screening of prostate cancer in a Basic Health Unit of the municipality of Imbé / RS during the campaign of the blue November 2016.
Methodology: Qualitative research carried out in a Basic Care Unit Of the municipality of Imbé / RS, through the use of a semi structured questionnaire used in 15 participants of the Blue November campaign, analyzed from Glaser.
Results and discussions: Machismo and prejudice were clearly evidenced, causing distancing of the users of health services. The majority of the sample interviewed had little understanding regarding prostate cancer. The user must feel himself to be an integral member of the Basic Health Unit where he / she attends, becoming a competent part of his / her own health.
