Mental health can be defined as a cognitive-emotional equilibrium of the subjects. The movement of psychiatric reform has brought the possibility of new forms of mental health interventions to individuals with some kind of psychic pathology. In this way, the centers of psychosocial attention (CAPS) arose. This article refers to a report of experience developed in a psychology practice in a CAPS. It had as objectives to identify what changes the psychiatric reform brought to the psychological practice and understand the role of the psychologist in the CAPS of the city of Teresina-PI. As a method for this report, it was based on theoretical studies, official documents, participant observation and personal experience to report the chronology of the planning and development of the actions that were carried out in the unit. The results made it possible to understand the performance of the psychologist in relation to the activities carried out in the institution, such as therapeutic workshops, home visits, matriciations, group tours and screenings, understanding the skills and theoretical and technical skills necessary for the ethical and effective performance of the profes sion, based on in the changes offered before the psychiatric reform. It is concluded that the new practices implanted in the mental health network offer a greater care and autonomy of the users, making possible the protagonism before their experiences.
