Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of a pulmonary rehabilitation program on ventilatory function and functional capacity in asthmatics.

Methods: Experimental study, where 19 adults of both sexes, divided into Control Group (CG) and Group Treatment (GT). Spirometric variables and the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) were evaluated. The GT group performed 24 sessions of pulmonary rehabilitation, three times a week, lasting one hour each.

Results: Both at the pre and posttreatment moments there was no significant difference (p>0.05) between GC and GT. In the intragroup comparisons, there was a significant difference (p <0.05) in the 6MWT and forced expiratory flow (FEF) in both GT and CG. In GT there was also an improvement in vital capacity after the pulmonary rehabilitation program.

Conclusion: The pulmonary rehabilitation program did not show any significant improvement.
