Abstract

This article is an experience report of a work developed within the discipline of Counseling and Guidance in Psychology of a Faculty of Psychology in the interior of São Paulo, whose main objective was to reflect on possible and necessary interventions to be developed with mothers who care for their children. children with cerebral palsy. The orientation for the work of the discipline was that the students would need to develop a project to implement the practice of Counseling in some specific demand, and for personal motivations of the students, the demand of mothers who cared for their children with cerebral palsy was chosen. The researchers used as references for this work showed significant results on the mothers’ high level of stress, on the lack of awareness they have about this stress and its manifest symptoms, and the need to create public policy initiatives for care and specific care for this audience, and based on the studies developed throughout the semester in the discipline, the structure of the Counseling was presented as possible and even ideal to achieve this objective. The group of students structured a model for using the Psychological Counseling intervention in two different modalities: it can be developed in groups of guidelines and clarifications on specific issues of cerebral palsy, and also offering Psychological Duty for individual care. The future idea is to present this project to institutions that care for children with cerebral palsy so that they can offer care to mothers as well, guaranteeing a greater integrality of treatment.
