Abstract

Objective: The study seeks to analyze the socioeconomic, public health and individual factors that influence tuberculosis mortality in Brazilian cities.

Material and Method: Regression model with panel data from 2000 to 2019.

Results: The result of the estimation by Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) shows that poverty, education, cases of HIV and AIDS showed a strong connection with mortality from tuberculosis and Primary Care proved to be a key factor for its control.

Conclusion: Thus, the search for a higher educational level and a lower social inequality must be taken up by public policy makers. In addition, there is a need for better communication between the National Tuberculosis Control Program and the National Program for Sexually Transmitted Diseases / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, aiming at controlling diseases and co-infection with tuberculosis as well as advancing the immunization of the disease.
