Introduction: Most of the care provided to the elderly with hypertension occurs in Primary Care, so it is important to know the needs of these users when looking for the service.
Objective: To analyze the perception of nurses about the circumstances of seeking elderly people with hypertension for Primary Care.
Material and Methods: This is a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study conducted with 11 nurses working in Primary Care in Monte Azul, Minas Gerais. Data were collected between November / 2016 and January / 2017 through a semi-structured interview. Data analysis and interpretation was carried out in the light of the theoretical support for comprehensive care through Thematic Analysis.
Results: They indicated that, in most cases, the elderly go to the Health Unit to measure the pressure and renew the prescription. Despite carrying out scheduled service, demand is often spontaneous. When it is not directly related to the change in pressure, it is still evaluated considering the fact of being a user with hypertension.
Conclusion: There is an indication of integrality when they accompany the elderly at all opportunities to guide them, as it can represent an action focused on the health condition, where the valorization of “disease” overlaps the valuation of the subject.
