Educational Practices in Nutrition of a Nutrition Promotion group located in the city of Criciúma-SC: Experience Report

Introduction: Health is an essential human right and several determining and conditioning factors influence it. Healthy and adequate food is one of the factors to promote health and the organization of groups is one of the ways. One of the purposes of health promotion is to meet social health needs and ensure the improvement of the population’s quality of life.
Objective: To describe the experiences of nutritionists in a Nutrition Promotion Group located in the municipality of Criciúma-SC.
Description: This is a qualitative experience report. The experience took place in a Nutrition Promotion Group organized by nutritionists resident in Public Health / Primary Care who work in a Basic Health Unit.
Discussion: Autonomy in food choices reinforces the responsibility of individuals in their health-disease process. Educational activities in health promotion encourage people to think about the reality of their health and also to seek resources to improve health individually and collectively. In this way, the actions promoted by the group proved to be efficient, since several participants reported in the meetings that there was a gradual change to a healthy diet.
