Objective: To evaluate the perception of participants of a group of hypertensive and diabetic (Hiperdia) about the educational actions of food and nutrition developed in a Family Health Strategy in a municipality in Ceará.
Material and Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out in Quixeramobim-CE. The data were collected by a focus group, the speeches being transcribed and analyzed according to the methodology proposed by Bardin. Subsequently, they were coded, in order to guarantee data confi dentiality.
Results: Activities involving food and nutrition education at the meetings provided changes in the lifestyle of the group participants, advances in response to treatment, greater autonomy and safety regarding food choices and improvement in the relationship with the food itself. However, it is emphasized that there are major individual, cultural and social challenges that make it difficult to obtain results regarding changes in eating habits and quality of life for users.
Conclusion: Positive effects on the quality of life of users were observed after activities involving food and nutrition education in the Hiperdia group. However, there are few investments in public policies involving the subject in question within the PHC.
