A crise mundial e a promoção do desenvolvimento humano

Resumo

Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar algumas considerações acerca dos efeitos da crise econômica mundial de 2008-2009 quanto ao cumprimento dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento do Milênio (ODMs). Os ODMs compõem a Declaração do Milênio das Nações Unidas e se constituem em um importante instrumento para medir a promoção do bem-estar, pois reflete o conceito de desenvolvimento humano e a Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos. Estudos preliminares inferem que a crise econômica impactou no atingimento de metas importantes (como fome, saúde materna e infantil, igualdade de gênero, acesso a água e controle de doenças), contudo, há a possibilidade de reduzir em 50% a quantidade de pessoas que vivem com menos de US$ 1,00/dia.

Abstract: This paper has as objective show some aspects concerned about the recent world economic crisis related to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are in the United Nations Millennium Declaration and are important tools to measure the development of welfare, because they reflect the concept of human development, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Previous studies show that this economic crisis has helped not achieving some important targets (such as hunger, maternal and infant health, gender equality, Access to drinking water and disease control), whereas, there is the possibility of reducing in 50% of the number of people who live with less than US$ 1.00/day.
