From parents to children: conducting the succession process in two family businesses in the municipality of Santa Rosa/RS

Abstract

For a family business to remain consolidated in the market and to continue its business, it is necessary to plan its succession. This study aims to understand the conduction of the succession process in two family businesses in the city of Santa Rosa/RS. For this, an applied, descriptive and qualitative research was used. The companies were chosen for convenience, being called Alpha company and Gama company for the purpose of paying attention to ethical aspects. As main results, it was found that although they use different methodologies to conduct the succession process, both companies are well prepared for the transition of generations. Among the main aspects that emerged from the speeches, the need for autonomy, lack of planning, and constant family support stand out.
