Abstract

Why surrogate motherhood mattters? Surrogacy has been meant as a means to end with infertilty as stigma. It is a medical technique that it involves –especially- the lives of women who, because of their social and economic status, are seeking to get a better –but temporal- welfare. They are the ones who carry others’ babies. This helps mainly rich people to be parents without the costs of motherhood. It also favours a growing market of embryos where clinics and agencies provide personal services and fulfill the desire of their clients to be parents. But this practice can be seen as an exploitation of women as well as a practice to be unlawful. States do not get a consensus on this issue so clients-parents tend to look for lower cost clinics which it does not meant they provide better services. In this way reproductive tourism grows while states discuss arguments in order to prohibit or to allow surrogacy.
