The stress currently is perceived as responsible directly or indirectly for most of the ills that affect our life and assumes an important role in the area of health. This article aims to perform a systematic review about stress, focusing on the core concepts, psycho-physiological manifestations and health assessment. The study consisted of a search in the databases Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science, using keywords for the English terms “stress”, “concept”, “health” and “evaluation”. We chose as parameter the interval of 1959 to 2014 and thought about this interval due to the conceptual evolution of the stress and the relevance of the references found in the search. After reading and sorting, 26 articles and 22 books were selected for analysis. The results indicated that there is a multi-factorial pattern and influence on the magnitude of responses to stress, with predominance in the manifestations of psychological symptoms. The way the individual deals with experiences and stressor events will determine the vulnerability of his/her system to the occurrence of physical and psychological ailments.Downloads
