It is during childhood that the formation of the alimentary habit takes place, and, therefore, it is highlighted the need of actions that stimulate the adequate and healthy feeding, encouraging the food autonomy. The objective of this paper was to develop food autonomy in 5-6 years preschoolers in a private school of Early Childhood Education of Sapucaia do Sul, from educational activities in food and nutrition. Four interventions were proposed for a preschool class: the first of them was through the story “Aunt Zila and her friends fruits”; in the second intervention, the trajectory of the food, the need for mastication and home measures were addressed; in the third, the food wheel; and in the fourth, food autonomy. After two weeks of the last intervention, the results were observed. The students demonstrated that they knew the food, to have sufficient motor coordination to serve and feed themselves, as well as being interested and participating in all proposed activities. However, for these actions can have continuity, it is necessary to participate and engage those who accompany these children daily.
