Introduction: The couple of Samba Host (SH) and Flag Bearer (FB) carry the flag of the association and have the honor and respect to do it with decorum, lightness and efficiency. Its movement requires static and dynamic balance, agility, flexibility and resistance both aerobic and anaerobic.
Objective: To assess the heart rate (HR) and the average energy expenditure (EE) of a couple of FC and FB of a samba school of the Carnival of Porto Alegre, RS, during the official parade of 2017.
Method: Two individuals, one male and one female, aged 26 and 22, respectively, participated voluntarily. First, mean and final HR data were collected during the parade, which lasted 55 minutes. Then, the mean EE was estimated using an online calculator, which provides an estimate of the absolute EE during aerobic exercise, based on the variables gender, age, weight, duration of activity and mean HR.
Results and conclusions: During the parade there was a change in the HR of the individuals, reaching averages of 150bpm (SH) and 162bpm (FP), characterizing the activity as a high intensity exercise. The EE during the activity was 463 kcal (SH) and 336 kcal (FB).
