Quality of life and nutritional status of adolescents in a private school in Fortaleza, Ceará

Objective: To describe the quality of life and nutritional status of adolescents at a private school in Fortaleza, Ceará.
Method: Cross-sectional, school-based study developed with students from a private school, aged 13 to 19 years. Questionnaires related to food frequency, quality of life, socioeconomic data and nutritional assessment were applied.
Results: It was verified that the majority (11; 52.4%) of the girls were between the ages of 13 and 14, whereas the majority of boys (13; 44.8%) were between 15 and 16 years old. There was a higher percentage of overweight (overweight and obesity) in girls (8; 38.1%) than boys (7; 24.2%). From the classification of the food frequency questionnaire, the majority (33; 66.6%) of the adolescents were classified with poor diet. Regarding the classification of quality of life, boys had a higher quality of life (26; 89.6%) than girls (10; 47.6%).
Conclusions: The analysis of nutritional status revealed a higher prevalence of overweight in females. The male sex had a better quality of life among the analyzed variables when compared to the female sex.
