Introduction: The severe obesity is a chronic multifactorial disease characterized by excessive accumulation of fat with a huge impact on the health of the individual with economic and social repercussions.
Objective: To identify studies that present results of multiprofessional obesity treatment programs (MOTP) on people with severe obesity published between 2000 and 2018.
Material and Methods: A systematic review was carried out using the Endnote and Start softwares, to identify studies on the effects of MOTP on severe obesity whose outcomes included: biochemical, anthropometric, psychological or physical fitness parameters. The search bases were SCIELO, LILACS and PUBMED.
Results: 713 articles were found, of which 25 were duplicates and 685 were excluded, as they did not meet the pre-established criteria. Thus leaving only three articles for full reading and detailed analysis. The studies reveal improvements in functional capacity heart rate, blood pleasure and O2 up take (HR, BP and VO2 peak), as well as in biochemical parameters such as: blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, in addition to reduced body weight and BMI.
Conclusion: The results presented by the studies gathered in this review indicate the effectiveness of this type of intervention in adults with severe obesity. Therefore, it consists of an important subsidy for new studies in this area.
