Objective: The present study aims to report the case of a patient with a Morel-Lavallée lesion, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of the lesion.
Method: The information contained in this work was obtained by reviewing the medical record, photographic record of the diagnostic methods to which the patient was submitted and the patient’s injury. In addition, a literature review was carried out.
Result: This case report demonstrated the importance of knowledge of the disease, the forms of diagnosis and treatment for the surgeon to early identify the Morel-Lavallée lesion and obtain a favorable prognosis.
Conclusion: Many doctors find it difficult to diagnose the lesion, due to the fact that the main pathophysiology is due to closed trauma, with few suggestive signs on physical examination and on complementary exams. In addition, there is no standard of care, and further studies are needed to clearly define the best approach for closed degloving injuries.
