Presence of depressive and anxious symptoms in medicine academics of a university of Southwest goiano Brazilian

Objective: To outline the mental health profile of medical students in order to know the prevalence of depressive and anxious symptoms that would lead to psychiatric illnesses.
Material and Methods: Data collection with students from the 1st to the 8th undergraduate periods. The informed consent form was signed, with the function of establishing the prevalence of people with a previous diagnosis of depression and anxiety as well as knowing their possible risk factors. The Beck Depression Inventory (IDB) was used, which tracked depressive symptoms, discriminating between normal and depressed and anxious individuals. The third instrument was the Beck Anxiety Inventory (IAB), which has questions regarding nervousness, fear of bad events, facial flushing, among others. Thus, the data were analyzed using the Statistica for Windows 10.0 program.
Results: Based on the scores obtained by the IDB and IAB results, it was determined that 41.34% of the students had depressive symptoms, with a mean score higher in the 1st period, 50% had anxious symptoms, among them, higher rates in the 1st and 2nd periods.
Conclusion: The prevalence of depressive and anxious symptoms among medical students is concluded, which is higher than the average found in the general population.
